Designed by Manuel and Francisco Aires Mateus (1998-2001), the Rectory building is one of the most prominent buildings on the Campolide Campus. Visible from various points in the city, its high visibility is due to its location at the end of the platform opposite the long façade of the old college, but also to the design choices made by its designers, who embraced a dialogue with the former Jesuit college, a large-scale building that dominates the entire campus.

The building/base, under which the representative functions—auditoriums, meeting rooms, and lost steps—are housed, merges with the central platform through the roof, which, in addition to being walkable, ends in a grand staircase connecting the main exterior levels of the campus. UNL’s cultural activities have been predominantly developed on this ground floor of the Rectory since its inauguration, encompassing a broad artistic spectrum that encompasses visual arts, music, and film.

Due to its urban design, organizational quality and aesthetic impact, this building won the 2002 Valmor Award.
