As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, understood as a moment to commemorate half a century of innovation that projects us into the future, we challenged the team at Editora-Atelier Planeta Tangerina, which has continued to revolutionize the Portuguese publishing landscape for over 20 years, shattering rigid distinctions between illustrated books and art books, children’s books and books for adults, knowledge and imagination, to consider with us how to portray this questioning impulse that we associate with the project of a new university, founded in a period of change and new beginnings.

Aware that Nova’s historical position grants it the purpose of living in interesting times, we also sought to capture this overlap between the attentive adherence to the present that characterizes a civically engaged university and the restless and responsible questioning of a future that we know is challenging and uncertain.

Therefore, from the outset, we linked this project to the university’s strategic program within the scope of Sustainability and Sustainable Development, in all its aspects. Using material gathered from team meetings with representatives from all Nova schools, promoted by the Nova 4 the Globe platform, Isabel Minhós Martins and Madalena Matoso created and illustrated a question-and-answer game based on our ideas for university and our concerns and hopes for a sustainable future.

The result is a poster exhibition that will be displayed in various locations throughout Greater Lisbon—squares, roads, and parks in the four municipalities where Nova operates, as well as on the Cascais train line that connects several Nova locations—and will become part of the daily lives of people who travel through the city for a few weeks, allowing them to reflect on these questions with us.
