The programme (relitrom.pt) develops a literary and musical catalogue of references made by Portuguese authors from the 15th-18th centuries to old Peninsular romances, namely to the epic-lyrical poems with medieval origins or from the beginning of the 16th century and European balladry affiliation.

Developed by scholars dedicated to ancient literature and music (IELT and CESEM), the programme generated the relational database RELIT-Rom Digital Catalogue, which critically brings together intertexts with a balladistic reference, created under Portuguese signature prior to the 19th century. Therefore, this plan refines the still obscure vision of the field of ancient ballad tradition in Portugal, namely of its poetic and musical pragmatics.

At the same time, it promotes the rereading of the works by Portuguese authors that contain these ballad verses, guided by intertextual and inter-arts methodological approaches, since the poetic-musical formulas cited in said works create constitutive subtexts of these literary pages.

In this way, the discussion and dissemination of its results not only collaborate in academic and pedagogical initiatives, partially registered on the project’s website, but also favour, for example, the scenic experimentation (with musical component) of theatrical works included on the RELIT-Rom Digital Catalogue.
