CINENOVA – Interuniversity Film Festival, born in 2019, is organized by professors and students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at NOVA University Lisbon, who together gather professors, researchers, students and audiovisual workers to watch films and discuss cinema. The new edition of the Festival will take place between February 20 and 24, 2024, with the opening session scheduled – as tradition demandsat the Cinemateca Portuguesa.

As the first and only Interuniversity Film Festival in Portugal, CINENOVA aims to stimulate film production in a university environment and stimulate debate on the potential relationship between cinema and filmmakers, students and the university, assuming itself as a space of diversity and acceptance.

Over its four years of existence, the Festival has received more than 3,750 films from around 120 different countries, held 14 parallel activities and awarded several prizes to young filmmakers from all over the world, always favoring a plurality of voices and dialogue between cultures. In the spirit of intellectual exchange, alongside the screening of the films in competition, various parallel activities such as masterclasses, debates, social gatherings and workshops will be held throughout the Festival.

Cultivating a cultural and artistic atmosphere where each author has the freedom to express their subjectivity, CINENOVA returns to Lisbon’s auditoriums and cinemas for another edition of dialog and mutual learning.
