Christmas is celebrated with all our senses. The lights brighten our streets and homes as a symbol of hope and a sense of togetherness. Music awakens memories and stirs emotions that make us more open to one another. Even the cold, the scents, and the flavours become distinct at this time of year! With this in mind, for this concert, the musicians of Metropolitana bring music that awakens the senses. First, Illuminations, a 2017 work in which Miguel Azguime creates a poetic interplay between the orchestra’s sound and light, understood here through its spectral decomposition. This is followed by Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 3, whose final movement reminds us of the operas of Gioachino Rossini; it frees us from the constraints of the present and draws smiles from us.
Finally – and it could not be otherwise – come the traditional Christmas melodies.Conductor Pedro Neves himself has re-created them in a new guise, presented here in their premiere performance
