The Almada Negreiros-Sarah Affonso Center for Studies and Documentation (CEDANSA) was created in 2022 and is the result of a protocol signed between FCSH NOVA and the Almada Negreiros family in 2021. This protocol determined the deposit of the artist couple’s documentary archive, previously preserved by the family, at NOVA FCSH for research and the dissemination of scientific knowledge.
CEDANSA is coordinated by the IHA (Institute of Art History) and IELT (Institute for Literature and Tradition Studies) Research Units. It is a fundamental source for studies of the early avant-garde and modernist movements, housing the collections of two of the most important Portuguese artists of the 20th century. The documentary archive is characterized by an extraordinary profusion of genres, including manuscripts, drawings, correspondence, library materials, and photographs, among other documents.
CEDANSA welcomes collaborations with other research units and welcomes national and international researchers. The Almada Negreiros – Sarah Affonso documentary archive can be consulted by researchers who request it. Prior research should be done in the database available on the modernismo.br website.
