This project aims to work on the inclusion of visually impaired people in art museums by studying and developing a proposal for the implementation of haptic and auditory material in the museum space, using virtual reality. The starting point is the work “O Grupo do Leão” (1885) by Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro, kept at the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC).
Based on the work “O Grupo do Leão” (1885) by Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro, this IHA seed-project aims to explore the possibilities offered by virtual reality as a mediating element between the artistic object and the visually impaired public through the development of exploratory sessions at MNAC.
The project aims to generate new lines of research in museums by proposing translational applied research methods, with the objective of improving the quality of life of vulnerable groups. It will provide theoretical and practical results to the field of museology, deepening the knowledge about one of its key concepts – the development of mediation resources and interpretative contents, embracing the digital humanities as an axis of innovation and transformation. It aims to generate practical results for museums, providing elements to explore their collections and exhibitions with the disabled public.
