Tereza Martha/Júlio Pomar Foundation, the Júlio Pomar Atelier-Musem/EGEAC and the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa – School of Social Sciences and Humanities (NOVA FCSH) through the IHA – Art History Institute have established a partnership agreement to deepen the knowledge of the work and figure of Júlio Pomar through the attribution of Research Grants for Master’s Degree students.

In order to provide an incentive for research and to seek to develop the relationship between institutions and artistic entities that work on, or with works by the artist Júlio Pomar, particularly the Júlio Pomar Atelier-Museum/EGEAC which is dedicated to the study, conservation and dissemination of the artist’s work with the Academia, and the IHA, this sponsorship action by Tereza Martha gives continuity to the commitment established by the Atelier-Museum to broaden the scope of the reading of the work of Júlio Pomar, a fundamental artist in the history of Portuguese art, and thus to seek and discover new relations between his work and contemporary art and other artistic practices.

Within the scope of this partnership, a total of four scholarships will be awarded, one every two years, for a period of eight years, through an open call for students enrolled in a Master’s programme who hold a BA degree. The selected fellows must carry out a detailed and thorough study of the work and the figure of Júlio Pomar in its artistic, historical and sociopolitical dimension. The results of their research must culminate in the presentation and defence of a Master’s dissertation at NOVA FCSH in History of Art or Museology.

This agreement establishes a reciprocal collaboration between NOVA FCSH and Tereza Martha in order to develop projects that, through the IHA, aim to strengthen the quality of education and research in the field of History of Art.
