Gaetano Donizetti became famous for his operas, such as Lucrezia Borgia and Don Pasquale. Charles Gounod became famous for his opera Faust and Ave Maria, based on a prelude by Bach, one of the most beautiful melodies ever written. Joachim Raff, on the other hand, composer of operas, concertos, symphonies… enjoyed great prestige in his day, but has since been largely forgotten. In any case, they left us extensive catalogues that still have much to be discovered. The wind section of the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra has something to say about this. Two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons and two horns – that’s all it takes to bring to life three gems from the history of music written by these composers. These are three emblematic works from the rich repertoire for wind instruments.
