Peru, through the Ministry of Culture and the Qhapaq Ñan Project – National Headquarters, works to study, rescue, value, and keep alive the common history of this Andean heritage. On this occasion, the Embassy of Peru in Portugal and NOVA University Lisbon have joined forces in this effort to spread this history internationally.
The Qhapaq Ñan is one of the most important human creations in the Andean world. Festival Causa/ Efeito

In its third edition, the Causa Efeito Festival, the new jazz festival of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, welcomed a guest country for the first time in its program, with the support of the Italian Institute: Italy. Once again presenting a careful selection of the most innovative jazz musicians from the Portuguese and international scene, curated by Pedro Costa, Causa Efeito ’25 presented a series of unprecedented concerts, masterclasses, and debates over three days at the Campolide Campus, exploring the link between the University’s culture of innovation and restlessness and experimentation in artistic practice.

Through concerts, masterclasses, and debates, the Causa Efeito ’24 Festival hosted the annual meeting of the Europe Jazz Network and reflected on the link between experimentation and innovation, which is so important to the University. The 2024 edition featured three key names from the international improvised music scene – Eve Risser, Tim Berne, and Michael Formanek – and will feature several premieres and unprecedented encounters, explore unlikely instruments such as the harp, marimba, and Eve Risser’s prepared piano, and include moments of reflection, debate, and discussion, contributing to the articulation between research and artistic practice that defines the NOVA Cultura Program. Cause Effect was supported by American Corner, the principle of improvisation: Freedom passes through here.
