The project’s mission is to identify and study the description of landscapes related to mainland Portugal in Portuguese language literature published between the mid-nineteenth century and the present day.

The project uses literature as a source for the knowledge of the landscape in the national territory, as well as the evolution of description. From this programme were born a database, a web application, e-books, articles in scientific journals, colloquia, conferences, workshops and the coordination of a reading community.

The update of the technological structure and new partnerships with other research centres aim at the following objectives: to value the literary works and the landscapes represented in them (natural and cultural heritage), contributing to leisure and tourism; to favour environmental literacy; to contribute to the implementation of the European Landscape Convention.
